METAWATER Co., Ltd. (President: Kenji Yamaguchi; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter, "METAWATER") hereby announces that it has been selected as a component of the ESG investment index "FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index" (hereinafter, the "Index") for the first time.
The Index was developed by FTSE Russel, one of the leading ESG rating agencies, and measures the performance of companies that excel in their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices. Approximately 600 companies with relatively high scores have been selected for the Index. It has also been adopted as an ESG investment index by the Government Pension Investment Fund (GPIF).
METAWATER's Sustainability Activities
METAWATER Group positions the practice of its corporate philosophy "Continue, to make it sustainable" as sustainability. Under the Basic Sustainability Policy, it aims to achieve a sustainable environment and society through its business and to enhance corporate value. At the same time, it is promoting company-wide sustainability activities to address the six important issues (materiality) defined by the Policy: water environment, recycling-oriented society, greenhouse gas emission reduction, local communities, human resources, and governance.
In promoting sustainability activities, the Sustainability Committee, which has three specialized subcommittees, namely the Environmental Subcommittee, the Social Subcommittee, and the Governance Subcommittee, has been established to develop a system to review and promote sustainability initiatives across departments. In addition, it has also been actively disclosing the results and achievements of the activities through METAWATER's sustainability website and the METAWATER Report (integrated report).
We believe that these steady efforts have been recognized and led to the selection.
About the FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index
The FTSE Blossom Japan Sector Relative Index, which was developed by the global index provider FTSE Russel, is designed as a sector-neutral benchmark that reflects the relative performance of Japanese companies that excel in their Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) practices in their respective sectors. To promote the transition to a low-carbon economy, companies with particularly high greenhouse gas emissions are included only if their improvement efforts are recognized based on their TPI Management Quality Score.
