‵ Kingdom of Cambodia Kampong Thom Clear Waterworks Extension Plan ‵
METAWATER Co.,Ltd. (President: Yasushi Nakamura; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; hereinafter "METAWATER") is pleased to announce that, as part of a consortium comprising Kubota Construction Co.,Ltd., CTI Engineering International Co.,Ltd., and GEOCRAFT Co.,Ltd., it has received an order under the Kampong Thom Clean Waterworks Extension Plan (hereinafter "Project") in Kampong Thom Province, Kingdom of Cambodia. This will be the first Japanese business consortium to comprehensively carry out everything from design and construction to operation and maintenance of waterworks facilities under Japan's Official Development Assistance (ODA).
The Project is part of a business and management rights support-type grant aid signed by the Japanese and Cambodian governments in March 2017. Agreements on design and construction of the facility have already been concluded, and the signing ceremony for the basic agreement on operation and maintenance is planned to be held in Cambodia on March 26, 2019. METAWATER, together with consortium companies, will contribute to the stable supply of safe water in Cambodia through the construction, operation, and maintenance of waterworks facilities with Japan's high-quality infrastructure technologies.
Background and Purpose of Project
The Cambodian Government, with the goal of achieving a 100% access rate to safe drinking water in urban cities by 2025, is promoting development of clean waterworks facilities in local cities as an important issue under an initiative of the country's Ministry of Industry and Handicraft (MIH).
In the capital area of Kampong Thom Province in Northern Cambodia, in addition to raising the water supply rate, which remains at 41%, due to a lack of water pipe network development, expanding target supply areas is also called for against the backdrop of increasing urbanization.
On the other hand, because the quantity supplied from the existing water treatment plant also exceeds 90% of capacity, the situation requires expanded development without delay.
Under such circumstances, at the request of the Cambodian Government, the Japanese Government decided to launch an ODA project.
