On February 16, 2017, Sorami Bio Partners Co., Ltd., a special purpose company whose representative is METAWATER Co., Ltd. (President: Yasushi Nakamura; Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), concluded a contract with Nagoya City Waterworks & Sewerage Bureau regarding the "Sorami Sludge Recycle Center Sewage Sludge Fuel Production Project." One of our group companies, METAWATER Service Co., Ltd. (President: Eiji Nakamura; Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo), is also participating in this project as a cooperative company. Sewage sludge is currently incinerated before being disposed of. Under this project, a company for which we are a representative company designs and constructs a sludge-derived fuel production facility at the Sorami Sludge Recycle Center and then produces and sells biomass fuel. This project aims to promote the recycling of sewage sludge and contribute to the prevention of global warming through greenhouse gas reduction. About 12,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions are expected to be reduced each year in this project. The design and construction of a sludge-derived fuel production facility will be completed by September 2020, and during the 20 years from October 2020 to September 2040, (1) the operation and maintenance of this facility and (2) the purchase and sale of biomass fuel produced will be done under the current plan. Such fuel and coal will be mixed at nearby thermal power stations for combustion purposes. By participating in this project, we will contribute to the effective use of sewage-derived resources and greenhouse gas reduction.
